Abstract
The article examines approaches to the understanding and definition of such concept as the image. Analysis of substantial characteristics of the image, opposite components. In connection with the conclusions about the complexity and various aspects of this concept, considers an approach to the study of the image using the semiotic structure. Emphasizes the communicative nature of the image.
