Abstract
The article is concerned with the problems of professional competence and foreign language level of proficiency among potential graduates. The author analyses the reasons why the current system of foreign language training proves inefficient, explores the linguistic education methodology in terms of the 3 rd generation educational standards and discusses the necessity to teach foreign languages through the system of situations shaping professional competence integrated with proficiency in foreign language.
