Abstract
The article considers the theoretical issues of unity and diversity of mental activity, analyzes methodological characteristics of the holistic approach to the study of thought in the works of M. Wertheimer. It is shown the role of associative links in the development of mental activity and the inability to discover the essence of thinking from the standpoint of a holistic approach in the Gestalt theory. The problem of integrity and of its constituent elements in the thinking process is successfully solved within the framework of the dialectical understanding of the relationship of the whole and its constituent elements in the activity of the brain.
