Abstract
The article discusses one of the particular aspects of the problem of ethnic identity of the Russian people. The results of studies examining the content of ethnic Russian autostereotype based on the analysis of folk tales. Through the content analysis identified the main psychological characteristics of fairy-tale characters that form the basis of self-perception of the Russian ethnos. In particular, highlighted the positive, negative and ambiguous in its estimates of the components of autostereotype Russian, the context representation and the ratio of which has allowed to verify, on the one hand, the multifaceted and somewhat contradictory image of the Russian people, and the viability of the Russian ethnos.
