Abstract
This article is devoted to the actual problem of the proper use of the Russian-speaking environment borrowed in the vocabulary of English word gentleman. Considered the etymology of this word, the dynamics of its evolution and transformation in the UK from the moment of the introduction to modern times, retrospectively analyzed specific features of the functioning of the concept gentleman in Russian linguo-culture.
