Abstract
The article deals with several modern humanitarian theories which, as the author shows us, possess utopian characteristics and cannot be actualized for different reasons. The orientation on shallow social interactions and consumerist values forms individuals who are unable for persistent and systematic labour, unique self-development and self-realization. These are modern mediocrities. As an alternative, the author promotes an eudaimonic tradition, which has various theoretical and experimental confirmations, thus enabling practical realization of some advantages of the given conceptions as a concomitant result.
Keywords: altruism, ecological culture, egoism, eudaimonia, happiness, meaning, utopia
