Abstract
Presents the difference in the understanding of the phenomenon "competence" Western (American) and Russian scientific tradition, an attempt was made to identify differences in the positioning of this phenomenon in the General system of education as a social sphere, to clarity the implementation approach in formation of competence as one of the important criteria of training specialists from the standpoint of consistency in terms of subject teaching in the University educational process.
